My core legal competencies are securing patent and trademark protection; conducting patent non-infringement and invalidity analyses; and developing and litigating intellectual property cases for both plaintiffs and defendants. In litigation, I have a wealth of experience in drafting summary judgment, appellate, and Markman (claim construction) briefs in intellectual property cases and arguing their merits in court hearings. I developed these skills as a briefing attorney for the Texas Supreme Court, a major law firm associate, a solo practitioner collaborating with other law firms in litigation, and an author and presenter at several CLEs. The discipline I applied in pursuing electrical engineering and law degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology ('94, summa cum laude) and the University of Texas ('97, top 3%) is the discipline I continue to apply to my clients' matters.
Located in Colorado, Active Abroad
In 2007, the Law Firm of Eric W. Cernyar, P.C., relocated from San Antonio, Texas to Teller County, Colorado, close to Colorado Springs and convenient to Denver. I have taken depositions and/or made oral courtroom arguments in Texas, California, New York, Washington, D.C., and Canada. I continue to represent Texas clients both directly and as "of counsel" to the San Antonio firm of Hanor, Lively & Cernyar.
